Project: The Linear Playground | Zhongcheng Road Renovation

天母忠誠路老宅翻新

Located along the lush, rain-tree-lined Zhongcheng Road, this fourth-floor renovation focused on transforming a challenging, super-elongated floor plan into a spirited family home. Our primary objective was to break the "tunnel" effect common in such layouts by creating a series of visual "anchors."

Moving away from the current trend of stark minimalism, we embraced a more eclectic and layered approach. By pairing warm wooden textiles with a vibrant, high-energy color palette, we created a space that feels both grounded and playful. Strategic, bespoke storage solutions were integrated throughout the entire length of the home to accommodate a growing family's needs. The result is a home where every corner invites a "conversation"—a finite space maximized for infinite memories, designed specifically to fuel the imagination of both the children and the adults who live there.

Initial Vision

To maximize utility in the narrow layout, we envisioned replacing the standalone dining table with an expansive, extended bar system. By stretching the surface along the wall, we create a multi-functional 'hub' that serves as a kitchen prep station, a coffee bar, a workstation, and a communal dining area all in one. This clears the floor of bulky legs and opens up the primary circulation path. Finally, to reclaim the 'air' within the rooms, we proposed integrated overhead shelving throughout the living and sleeping quarters. By lifting storage toward the ceiling, we free up the eye level, creating a sense of openness while ensuring that every book, toy, and heirloom has its dedicated place.
